NEW DELHI:  All India Football Federation Executive Committee member and Airtel I-League Vice Chairman Mr. Ankur Dutta expressed his satisfaction at the way the 20th Women’s National Championships are being conducted in the districts of Dibrugarh, Golaghat and Bokakhat in Assam.

Despite it being the “Election Season” in the Country, Dutta stressed on the fact that the Women’s Nationals got good response from the organizers and spectators alike in the three towns.  

“It is a great honour for us to organise such an important Tournament,” Dutta told www.the-aiff.com. “In spite of Elections taking place in the State, we are getting tremendous support from all fraternities alike,” he added.

Underlining the number of female Footballers the State has produced over the years for the National Team, Dutta said that the popularity of the sport among the fairer sex is huge and the participation number testifies that.

“There are a total of 24 Teams participating in the Nationals. This goes to show the popularity of the game among Women. We have a bright future lying in front of us for Women’s Football. We have to promote the game professionally and I feel we are heading to the right direction.”

Dutta further informed that scouts are here to spot the right talent for the upcoming Asian Games in September.

“We have scouts here as well. Best Players will be picked for the Asian Games later this year.”

While Group B and C matches are being played in Dibrugarh, Golaghat is hosting Group D and Bokakhat is playing hosts to Group A.

The Inauguration Function in Dibrugarh was attended by Mr. Rana Bhunia, IPS Officer, who was the Chief Guest along with Mr. Dutta who is also the Honorary Secretary of Assam Football Association.

The following day, Mrs. Ajanta Neog, PWD Minister, Government of Assam along with Mr. Dutta was present for the Group D opening matches in Golaghat when hosts Assam played out a goalless draw and Jharkhand proved ‘two’ good for Pondicherry.
