NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand edged past Delhi 3-2 in a group A encounter of the North Zone qualifying round in the 68th Santosh Trophy which got underway in the Capital today (January 30, 2014) at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium.
Uttrakhand got the lead in the 47th minute through Ashok Singh Kalakoti. Delhi came back in the game in 59th minute to equalise through medio Shashank Mamgain.
Delhi then took the lead for the first time in the match in the 67th minute when right-back Vikas Rawat made the most of a corner kick.
Thereafter, Uttrakhand took advantage of Delhi's porous defending as their midfielder Saurabh Rawat scored a brace in 81st and 87th minute respectively to record the win.
Earlier in the opening match, Haryana scored a 2 - 1 victory over Chandigarh to collect three points.
Haryana went ahead in the 15th minute through Rahul while Abhishek made it 2 - 0 in 28th minute. Chandigarh halved the margin in the 43rd minute through Pawandeep Singh.
The National Championships was inaugurated by All India Football Federation (AIFF) Vice-President and DSA President Mr. Subhash Chopra and former Junior International Aziz Qureshi.
