NEW DELHI: Odisha defeated Delhi 2-0 while Goa thumped Tamil Nadu 5-1 in the Group A fixtures of the ongoing 37th Sub-Junior National Football Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on April 16, 2016.
After a goalless first half, Bekey Oram gave Odisha the lead in the 48th minute as he blasted home his opportunity into the back of the net. Delhi tried to stage a comeback but were left reeling as attacking opportunities were not finished.
In the dying embers of the match, Pintu Samal put the result of the fixture beyond doubt as he scored with virtually the last kick of the match to extend Odisha’s lead as the full-time scoreline read 2-0 in Odisha’s favour.
Meanwhile, Goa pumped in five goals against Tamil Nadu as the onslaught started from the 37th minute when Harsh Shaileshpaire scored to give Goa a solitary goal lead. Goals through Kenneth Da Costa and Aman Bohr in the 40th and in the 43rd minute meant that Goa led 3-0 at half-time.
Although Tamil Nadu pulled one goal back in the 60th minute through Samuel Raj, Goa scored in the 71st minute and the 82nd minute, through Kenneth Da Costa and Francis Demelo as the full-time scoreline read 5-1 in Goa’s favour.
