
KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan Super Giant beat FC Goa 2-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Saturday, March 9, 2025. Both teams will feature in the ISL semi-finals courtesy of finishing in the top two places.
It was a gripping affair with both teams getting a flurry of chances. However, the Mariners secured their 17th win of the season courtesy of an own goal from Boris Singh and a late strike from Greg Stewart.
With this victory, they remained unbeaten at home this season throughout the league phase. They also mustered 56 points this season, which is the most in a single ISL campaign.
MBSG took the lead in the 62nd minute courtesy of errors from Boris Singh and Hrithik Tiwari. The duo had some miscommunication as Boris' headed ball bounced into the net leaving Hrithik wrong-footed.
The final phase of the game saw the Mohun Bagan playing percentage football as they had already secured the lead. Later the hosts doubled their lead when Cummings played Stewart through on goal and the Scotsman slotted it past Hrithik in goal to close out match as the home side went on to lift the ISL League Shield in front of 61,591 supporters.
NorthEast United FC outclass East Bengal 4-0
SHILLONG: NorthEast United FC defeated East Bengal FC 4-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The Highlanders thus bagged their 10th win of the league season, wrapping up their 24 games and earning 38 points before embarking on their playoffs journey. This was the eighth match where NorthEast United FC scored three or more goals this season, and also got their first-ever ISL win in Shillong.
Nestor Albiach (59’), Alaaeddine Ajaraie (66’ 79’) and Mohammed Bemammer (86’) were the scorers for the winners.
NorthEast United FC are set to feature in the playoffs now, whereas East Bengal FC’s ISL campaign draws to an end with this match.
