India U-16 face strong Tajikistan in first match

NEW DELHI: India’s U-16 colts take on a strong Tajikistan in their first match of the AFC U-16 Qualifiers at the Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium, Kuwait City on Saturday (September 21). The kick-off at is at IST 7.20pm.

The Indian squad comprising of All India Football Federation’s Regional Academy boys landed in Kuwait City on Thursday (September 19) after a 9-day Preparatory Camp in Dubai where they played two Friendly matches.

While the U-16 Indian National Team were held to a 1-1 draw by UAE U-17 National Team who were recently crowed the Gulf Champions in the second match, in the first match they defeated Sharjah Sports Club’s U-17 Team 4-0 in the first match.

The UAE U-17 Team will be playing in the U-17 World Cup next month.

Head Coach Gautam Ghosh said they are “looking forward to the challenge.”

“It’s a learning curve for us. The boys are getting to understand what International Football is all about.” Ghosh had coached the squad to a triumph in the U-16 SAFF Championships in Kathmandu in July 2013.
