The Indian U-16 National Team beat Afghanistan U-16 Team 4-3 on Penalties to book their place in the Final of the SAFF U-16 Championship, at the Army Ground in Kathmandu, Nepal on Sunday (July 28, 2013).

India will be playing Nepal in the Final on Tuesday (July 30, 2013).

The semifinal clash headed straight into the Tie-Breaker after ninety minutes failed to separate the two outfits.

For India, who are being represented by AIFF Regional Academy’s U-15 boys, Bedashwor Singh, Prosenjit Chakraborty, Surya Tirkey and Aaron Rodrigues found the back of the net. Krishna Pandit’s effort from 12 yards, hit the woodwork.

"We missed the first penalty. But inspite of that, my boys showed a lot of character to comeback and win the game," Head Coach Goutam Ghosh said afer the match.

"People say tie-breakers are all about luck but I don't completely agree. It takes lot of skill to take and save penalties. I am proud of the way our Boys kept their calm and took the upper hand today in the tie-breaker," added Ghosh.
