NEW DELHI: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has revamped the definition of Grassroots Football characterizing it as; All Football which is Non-Professional/Non-Elite is part of Grassroots Football including Children’s Football, School Football, Futsal, Beach football, Women’s Football, Veterans Football, Community Football, Amateur Football and Football for the disabled.
Keeping in mind the definition change and in tune with the AFC Grassroots philosophy the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will implement the change on the AFC Grassroots Day (May 15, 2017) expanding Grassroots Football to all categories, age groups and genders.
Further the expanded concept of Grassroots Football has been divided into various sub-categories – Children’s Football (6-12 years), Youth Football (13-19 years), Amateur Football (20+ years), Veteran’s Football (40+ years)
The afore mentioned age categories will be involved in events like Festivals, Simple games, One day Tournaments, Exhibition Matches, Fun Activities, etc. These may include 2V2/ 3V3/ 4V4/ 5V5/ 7V7/ 9V9/ 11V11 games and much more when AIFF celebrates the AFC Grassroots Day.
AIFF will also initiate campaigns such as Respect for opponents, Girls’ only event and campaign for social causes during the celebration of the AFC Grassroots Day on May 15, 2017.
