NEW DELHI: In a stellar performance the Indian Arrows defeated Shillong Lajong 3-0, courtesy of goals from defender Jitendra Singh and substitutes Nongdamba Naorem and Rahul KP, to get back to winning ways after losing three matches on the trot.
Speaking at the official post-match press conference, assistant coach Floyd Pinto said, “We focused on being organized and that won us the match. What impressed me that these boys gave their extra on the pitch and that is what led us over the line. We kept the ball very well and we rotated the ball keeping decent possession”
Substitutions changed the flow of the match for the Indian Arrows as both second-half substitutes Nongdamba Naorem and Rahul K.P scored within minutes of coming on. “The substitutes won us the match as even a 1-0 lead over Lajong was not enough, but we gave extra on the pitch and that won us the match”
“Both Rahul and Nongdamba were both sharp in the final third and if we had kept dropping back then a 1-0 lead would not have been enough. The substitutes came to the ground and wanted to prove something and they did that”, Pinto informed.
“The most important thing for us to keep the momentum and continue with the form that we have right now”, Pinto stated.
Hero Of The Match Jitendra Singh who was sitting beside Pinto said, “There is a healthy competition in the squad and that keeps me on my toes to give my best in every match I play.”
Arrows will now fly to Kolkata to lock their horns with Mariners on December 29, 2017.
