ANANTAPUR, ANDHRA PRADESH: Delhi moved a step closer to securing a semi-final spot in the Junior Girls’ National Football Championship Tier 1 after they beat Odisha 3-1 at the RDT Stadium in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. The two teams were tied 1-1 at half time.

Odisha took the lead in the second minute through captain Thandamoni Baskey’s strike, but a hat-trick by Delhi forward Lhingdeikim (45+3’, 52’, 76’) made it a comfortable victory for the side from the capital.

In the other match of the day, Chhattisgarh recorded their first win of the campaign, with a 10-0 triumph against Mizoram. The winners scored five in each half.

Sushila Kashyap (12’, 27’, 90+2’) scored a hattrick for Chhattisgarh, while Hembati Baghel (4’, 83’), and Muskan (72’, 76’) netted two goals each. Muskhan Yalam (15’), and Mahima Mandavi (39’) netted one each, while Mizoram substitute B. Lalnuntluangi (90+1’) scored an own goal.

Delhi now sit pretty at the top of Group D with six points from two games, and need only a draw against Chhattisgarh in their last group stage match on August 16 to book their semi-final berth. Chhattisgarh need to defeat Delhi in on August 16 and hope that Odisha do not get three points against Mizoram. Meanwhile, Odisha need a win by a big margin against Mizoram and then hope for a Chhattisgarh win against Delhi.
