NEW DELHI: United Sports Club were handed a 0-2 defeat in the first round match of the Second Division League against Mohammedan Sporting on Sunday at the Kanchenjunga Stadium, Siliguri.
The Purple Brigade started the match on a positive note and created a number of good moves in the first half. The first blood, however was drawn by the Mohammedan when Daniel Bidemi open the scoring for his side in the 50th minute of the game.
Both the teams tried to invade the opponent box in the remaining minutes also, but no more changes to the score line were done by United SC. The second setback was suffered by United in the last portion of the second half, when Phulchand Hembram doubled the lead in the 79th minute of the game for his side.
United SC started off well and enjoyed the ball possessions during first quarter of the match but failed to capitalize. After resumption of play, the Purple boys had lost the plot completely and played some uninspiring football which resulted in Mohammedan’s two goal win.
Meanwhile in the remaining part of the match United did create some attacking moves in patches but poor finishing and lack of co-ordination in upfront saw United SC going down 2-0.
United chief coach Satyabrata Bhowmick also talked a bit about the team’s performance. “Jagannath Sana and Azharuddin, who are joined this senior team from our U-19 squad, were brilliant, Azharuddin created couple of chances but missed these for his experience.
“I am quite satisfied about team’s performance but still needs more practice, I am sure we will definitely fight back in our next match,” he told in the post-match press conference.
In the other match of the day, Mizoram outfit Chanmari FC recorded a massive 4-1 victory over Kenkre Sports Club in the morning.
