Chandigarh, Telangana win in Group E clashes at Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's NFC

NARAINPUR, CHHATTISGARH: Chandigarh climbed to the top of Group E after defeating Uttarakhand at the RKM Ashrama Ground on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Telangana routed Pondicherry 6-0 in the other match of the day.

With a perfect start to their group, Chandigarh are now on six points from two matches, while Telangana have moved to the second spot with four points from as many games. Uttarakhand, with one point, and Pondicherry, who are yet to score a point, are in third and fourth, respectively.

Chandigarh made it their second win in a row, defeating Uttarakhand 2-0 in the first match of the day. Sahil (38’) and TS Yangkhongam Haokip (66’) scored on either side of the half-time break.

After a cautious start to the match by both the sides, Sahil gave Chandigarh the breakthrough, as he headed in an indirect free-kick from the left.

Haokip gave Chandigarh the cushion when he was played through behind the Uttarakhand defence in the second half. His initial effort to slip it past the keeper struck the Uttarakhand custodian’s knee, but the rebound fell kindly for the forward to finish eventually into what was an empty net. Uttarakhand’s Tanishq Bhandari was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 71st minute.

Telangana demolish Pondicherry

Telangana completed a demolition job against Pondicherry in the second match of the day, moving them on to four points in the group. They scored three goals in each half.

Stephen Chhandama Chhakchukka opened the scoring in the seventh minute, before Shaik Sadaan netted twice in the 12th minute and the first half injury time (45+3’).

While Pondicherry put up some resistance in the second half, the dam finally broke in the 88th minute, when Jason Muttum scored the fourth. Mohammed Saif Ullah added the fifth in injury time, before Pondicherry defender Thomas scored an own goal minutes before the full-time whistle.

Telangana and Chandigarh will square off on April 14, where a win for the former will see them make it to the knockout rounds, while the latter only need a draw.
