BENGALURU: The football lovers of the Garden City filled the Sree Kanteerava Stadium and cheered their heart out for their very own Bengaluru FC. The blues reciprocated well with a thumping victory over North-east powerhouse Shillong Lajong FC, courtesy a fine brace from Kim Song Yung and an early striker from Vineeth. As the Kolkata derby failed to find a winner the other night, Bengaluru FC’s 3-0 win today against Shillong Lajong FC ensured the top position in the points table after Gameweek 3.

Before the spectators actually settled down, the hosts took the lead when the match was just 38 seconds old. An error from the Lajong defense enabled Bengaluru striker Vineet, carrying out the new striker role in perfection, pick a loose ball, and banged diagonally to the goal, completely beyond goalie Vishal Kaith’s reach.

The goal is the fastest goal of this season while James Moga’s goal in the 14th second, which he scored for Pune FC against United Sikkim in the 2012-13 season, is the all-time fastest goal of I-League.

Shillong Lajong are perhaps the youngest team in Hero I-League as gaffer Sinto started with 6 U-22 players tonight. The Brazilian striking duo for Lajong Uilliams and Fabio Pena showed their glimpses of brilliance but could not convert those chances.

CK Vineeth was again in action, assisting the second goal for Bengaluru FC in the 35th minute. Vineeth provided a square pass to Eugenson Lyngdoh, which the keeper fended off, while Kahit punched the bombarding shot of Lyngdoh, Kim Song Yong put minimal effort to slot it home.

After the breather, Shillong Lajong started in a positive note. They forced a corner in the second minute itself followed by a set-piece in goal scoring vicinity, but none could offer more solace to the Lajong fans.

Kim added another to his tally in the 60th minute and sealed the victory for the Blues. The North Korean striker ran past Nim Dorjee Tamang and having collected a through ball from right flank, he completed his brace with much composure. He could have been a worthy owner of hat-trick should his powerful low strike seen the back of the net instead of rattling the woodwork.

None other than the North Korean striker, Kim Song Yung, deserved to be the Hero of the Match tonight and he was awarded the silver ball by none other than the team supremo Mr. Parth Jindal.
