KOLKATA: FC Goa held Mohammedan Sporting Club to a 1-1 draw at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25.
Mohammedan Sporting dictated the majority of the game. They broke the deadlock in the 66th minute courtesy of Alexis Gomez’s spot-kick. But Armando Sadiku’s header in stoppage time meant that the points were shared on the night.
The match saw Mohammedan Sporting dominate the proceedings with 31 touches in the opposition's box compared to FC Goa's 10. The hosts also created 17 chances on the night with Carlos Franca and Gomez creating three each.
The hosts controlled the proceedings once again just like they did in the match against NorthEast United FC. They created multiple opportunities in the first period with the likes of Franca and Gomez constantly troubling the FC Goa backline.
Mohammedan Sporting were finally rewarded for their relentless attacks when they earned a penalty in the 66th minute after Onaindia brought down Franca in the penalty box. The subsequent spot-kick was calmly converted by Alexis Gomez as the Black and Whites registered their first goal in ISL. The visitors restored parity when Armando Sadiku headed the ball home following a brilliant cross from Aakash Sangwan in stoppage time to salvage a point from the match. Alexis Gomez was adjudged the Key Performer of the Match.
Jamshedpur FC rally to grab full points against Mumbai City FC
JAMSHEDPUR: Jamshedpur FC registered a fascinating 3-2 win over Mumbai City FC 3-2 after falling a goal behind, to secure their first home victory of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Spanish midfielder Javi Hernandez powered the comeback after Jordan Murray cancelled out Nikolaos Karelis’s 18th minute strike as the Men of Steel at home ousted the Islanders mounting a comeback to take the lead into the second half after being 1-0 down.
In the 36th minute, Jamshedpur FC kicked into life. Consecutive attacks and crosses from Imran Khan from the right flank finally helped Khalid Jamil’s side restore parity as one such cross was guided into the net by Jordan Murray.
In the 44th minute, Jamshedpur FC earned the lead after Javi Hernandez’s free-kick caressed the back of the net. The set-piece which was taken by the midfielder from the right flank landed directly into the back of the net.
Five minutes into the second half, Jamshedpur FC’s efforts paid off as Seiminlen Doungel set it up for Javi Hernandez for his second goal of the evening. Mumbai City FC slowly started trying to get back into the game. And finally, in the 77th minute, they found an answer. Yoell van Nieff tried some dribbling dynamics just outside the Jamshedpur penalty area and lodged a curling effort on goal, which ultimately went past Albino Gomes to reduce the lead. Javi Hernandez of Jamshedpur FC was adjudged the Key Performer of the Match.
