NEW DELHI: A sterling second half performance by the AIFF U-17 Colts saw the ‘Boys in Blue’ stage a remarkable comeback as the Colts trumped DSK Shivajians U-18 4-3, after trailing 0-2 at halftime, in their first match of the IFA Shield at the Barasat Stadium in Kolkata.
DSK Shivajians scored in the 5th minute of the match and doubled their lead in the eighth minute as the Indian Colts fell prey to some uncanny defending. However, it was a different tale in the second half as the Colts blasted four goals past their opponents showcasing fluid attacking fused with solid defending.
In the 59th minute, Prosenjit dribbled in from the right wing and unleashed a curling shot which ended in the bottom corner to make the score-line read 1-2. Although DSK Shivajians scored in the 63rd minute to extend their lead again, it seldom deterred the spirits of the Indian colts.
In the 77th minute, Prosenjit burst into the 18 yard box and slipped a back pass to an onrushing Bedashwor Singh, who coolly slotted the ball past the DSK Shivajian custodian to make it 2-3.
Three minutes later the Indian colts equalized when Bodo blasted his opportunity home after Jerry fed him in the 18 yard box. The Indian juggernaut of attack was barely thwarted by the DSK defence and the Colts took the lead in the 89th minute as Anirudh Thapa tapped his opportunity home after Nijwm’s shot earned an uncanny save from the DSK custodian.
