A late Alberto Rodriguez strike gives Mohun Bagan Super Giant full points

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan Super Giant grabbed their fifth consecutive home win defeating Kerala Blasters FC by 3-2 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25, on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

The Mariners strengthened their position at the top of the table, with their tally now standing at 26 points from 11 matches with the help of eight victories and two draws.

The home side opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Asish Rai unleashed a powerful shot from distance was stopped by Sachin, but the rebound fell in Jamie Maclaren’s path, who comfortably slotted it into the bottom left corner of the net.

The visitors equalised in the 51st minute when Jesus Jimenez hammered it into the bottom left corner from outside of the 18-yard box.

Kerala Blasters succeeded in breaching past the Mariners’ defence again in the 77th minute. Off a set piece, Milos Drincic was placed perfectly to drill the ball into the high centre of the goal.

That opened the floodgates for an onslaught from the Mariners, as Jason Cummings came off the bench in the 80th minute. His partnership with Dimitrios Petratos was lethal upfront, with the latter squaring up a pass for Cummings deep inside the box that was netted into the bottom left corner by the striker to bring the scores back to level terms in the 86th minute.

Mohun Bagan struck the match-winner during the added time. The Kerala Blasters defence was unable to clear their lines after a corner and Alberto Rodriguez, placed outside the 18-yard area, launched a shot into the bottom left corner.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant are slated to play FC Goa on December 20, whereas Kerala Blasters FC will be clashing against Mohammedan Sporting on December 22.

Second half comeback against FC Goa extends Bengaluru FC’s unbeaten home run

BENGALURU: Bengaluru FC produced a late comeback to clinch a point after a 2-2 draw against FC Goa at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

FC Goa took the lead when off a free-kick in the seventh minute, Sandesh Jhingan, surrounded by a host of Bengaluru FC players, showed tremendous aerial ability to jump and head the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Despite Bengaluru FC’s repeated efforts to trouble FC Goa from distance, it was Sahil Tavora who notched a strike from outside of the box in the 66th minute to double the Gaurs’ lead.

The Blues quickly struck back, as Williams cut the deficit in the 71st minute with a brilliant finish off a through ball by Vinith Venkatesh.

The home side restored parity when Jorge Pereyra Diaz slotted home a timely pass by Roshan Singh in the 83rd minute.

Bengaluru FC will play their next game against Chennaiyin FC on December 28. FC Goa will be clashing with Mohun Bagan Super Giant on December 20.
