India will host the FIFA Under 17 World Cup in 2017. It will be the first time the country hosts an event from the world football governing body. This is the third most important event of the FIFA calendar, with 24 countries playing 52 games in 6 venues across India. The FIFA Under 17 World Cup has been a key stepping stone in the careers of a large part of world football stars, among them 16 senior FIFA world champions and will be the most important event ever to be hosted in Indian football history.

The tournament has a huge worldwide reach, with an estimated global audience of about 200 million viewers from almost 200 different countries, which is a golden opportunity to show India throughout the world, its cities, culture and the capability of organizing an event of the highest standards.

The FIFA Under 17 World Cup will have a lasting influence in Indian Football, upgrading the infrastructure, setting up proper game operations standards and improving the overall quality of the game. Undoubtedly, the FIFA Under 17 World Cup India 2017 is primed to be a game changer for Indian Football.

Job Description:

The Venue Press Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Venue Press Officer with all media-related matters in the Official Host City. The position will have to work closely with the Venue Press Officer to ensure that the tournament’s overall external and internal communication objectives are met. The position will assist in managing the physical media operations of the Venue, employing a common communications strategy that is delivered across the country for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017. 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Assist in creating a strong media presence and establishing relationships with key media in Host City.
  • Monitor the set-up of the venue’s media areas, including the Stadium Media Centre, Media Tribune, Mixed Zone, media access routes and signage.
  • Assist in controlling all venue-specific media operations during the competition.
  • Maintain close communications with the Venue Press Officer.
  • Conduct duties assigned by Venue Press Officer.
  • Support the tournament’s FIFA Media Guidelines.
  • Assist in media accreditation requests, as appropriate.
  • Assist in the organisation and implementation of the training of media staff and volunteers on things such as the media focused Welcome Desk and Help Desk.
  • Assist in organising the match-day media events including post-match press conference.
  • Assist in creating a final report summarising all media operations, results, statistics, where applicable, as well as lessons learned.


Required Skills, Experience & Abilities

  • Over a year’s experience in communications (preferred).
  • Command over English.
  • Effective communication skills in local language (preferred).
  • Effective written and new media communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the national and local media.
  • Good knowledge of stadium infrastructure and technical expertise.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work above and beyond expectations.
  • Strong organisational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required.
