West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand enter final round of Sr Women’s NFC for Rajmata Jijabai Trophy

NADIA, WEST BENGAL: Hosts West Bengal made the final round of the 29th Senior Women’s National Football Championship for the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy from Group B after defeating Karnataka 3-0 at the DL Stadium on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

Bengal finished with nine points from three matches in the four-team group with Karnataka stopping at six to be placed second.

Bengal wrapped up the issue in their favour in the first half itself as they picked up all three goals during this period. After Kabita Saren slammed in two quick goals in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, junior international Sulanjana Raul completed the tally in the 45+3 minute.

Later, in an inconsequential match, Bihar defeated Jammu and Kashmir 7-0 to return home with three points. Manisha Kumari (3), Shruti Kumari (2), skipper Baby Kumari and Puja Kumari were the scorers.

Odisha make the grade with a big win

ANANTAPUR, ANDHRA PRADESH: Odisha made the final rounds from Group F on better goal difference though they along with Arunachal Pradesh finished on seven points from three matches at the RDT Stadium.

However, Odisha’s 12-0 win over Madhya Pradesh made all the difference with Pyari Xaxa alone accounting for six goals. The other goals were divided between Subhadra Sahoo (2), Manisha Naik (2), Deepa Nayak and Meenu (OG).

In the other match of the day, Arunachal Pradesh defeated Ladakh 2-0 with Tadar Marmi and Giani Ramching Mara scoring in the first half. While Odisha’s goal difference stood at 19-0, Arunachal lagged behind at 10-0.

Jharkhand blank Telangana

SILIGURI, WEST BENGAL: Jharkhand also made their way into the final round after beating Telangana 2-0 and topping Group H at the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri.

The winners struck once in each half via Sunita Munda (37') and Amisha Baxla (52').
