NEW DELHI: The Indian U-17 World Cup Squad came from two goals down to play out an impressive 3-3 draw against SC Wehen in Germany today (June 14, 2016).
Although the Indian Colts had a chance to take an early lead in the 10th minute when Sanjeev burst onto goal after a tacky one-touch play with Abijit Sarkar which resulted in a miscued shot, it was their opponents who scored in quick successions in the 11th and the 13th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
India halved their deficit in the 25th minute when Abhijit Sarkar latched onto a through ball and placed it into the back of the net, but the German opposition scored in the very next minute to maintain the goal difference as the scoreline read 3-1.
After the Indian colts trailed 3-1 at half-time, the U-17 World Cup Squad which had defeated Luxembourg 1-0 in Luxembourg last time around, scored through Komal in the 49th minute as his bullet header from a Ninthoi cross from the right flank saw the light of day as the scoreline read 3-2.
With attacking momentum in their corner, India could have equalized their deficit in the 60th minute when Abhijit Sarkar hoofed his chance wide after a one versus one scenario with the opposition custodian.
However in the 73rd minute the Indian colts equalized their deficit as Amarjit Singh scored from the penalty kick, after the referee pointed to the spot following a foul on Joysana.
The full-time scoreline read 3-3 as the Indian defence stood strong to see out the match.
