NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu succumbed to their third straight defeat in the ongoing 37th Sub-Junior National Football Championship as they lost 9-0 to Odisha in a Group A fixture at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on April 14, 2016.
It was all one way traffic right from the kick-off as Odisha attacked and Tamil Nadu defended. In the 3rd minute itself, Odisha fostered a goal scoring chance but the cross from the right flank was a little too overhit as the Tamil Nadu custodian swept it up.
The only chance for Tamil Nadu in the first half came in the 9th minute, when Siva Prakash’s shot from 25 yards out earned a finger touch save from the Odisha custodian.
The Odisha attacking juggernaut started rolling in the 12th minute as Samir Kerketta slotted past a hapless Tamil Nadu custodian to give Odisha a solitary goal lead. Shortly after, Bekey Oram latched onto a through ball and scored to double Odisha’s lead.
Three goals in under 10 minutes sealed Tamil Nadu’s fate as in the 30th minute, Brundaban Munda blasted his opportunity into the back of the net, which was followed by two quick goals by Suraj Malha in the 38th and Samir Kerketta in the 39th minute.
In the dying embers of the first half, Bekey Oram scored another as the half-time scoreline read 6-0.
The second half was no different as Odisha continued to pillage the Tamil Nadu defence. Tamil Nadu were also left reeling of attacking opportunities as Odisha dominated possession and controlled the tempo of the game.
In the 71st minute, Odisha scored their 7th goal when Nabin Majhi blasted his chance into the back of the net to make the scoreline read 7-0. Ten minutes later, Bekey Oram made it 8-0 for Odisha and Abhinash Samal added another in the dying embers of the second half as the full-time scoreline read 9-0.
