Sunil Chhetri emerges top ISL goalscorer as Bengaluru FC outclass Mohun Bagan SG

BENGALURU: Bengaluru FC maintained their perfect start with a 3-0 drubbing of Mohun Bagan Super Giant on matchday three of the Indian Super League 2024-25 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Goals from Edgar Mendez, Suresh Singh and Sunil Chhetri were enough to earn maximum points against the Mariners. The winners led 2-0 at half time.

The Blues were rewarded for their high-intensity football as Mendez scored the opener in the ninth minute. It was a well-worked corner from the hosts that reached Nikhil Poojary in the box. Poojary guided his header towards Mendez’s path and the Spaniard turned it past Kaith to hand Bengaluru FC the lead.

Bengaluru FC maintained their control and rightfully doubled the lead in the 20th minute courtesy of a goal from Suresh Singh. It was Mendez who made a darting run down the right flank and found Chhetri in the box with a well-weighted cross. The 40-year-old smartly flicked it into Suresh’s path, who slammed it home, doubling the lead for the hosts.

Bengaluru FC continued their rampant form in the second half. The Blues eventually added the third goal when Dippendu Biswas brought down Mendez in the penalty area, awarding the hosts a spot-kick. Chhetri stepped up and slotted it home in the 51st minute to etch his name in the history books as ISL’s highest goalscorer with his 64th strike. He was named the Key Performer of the Match.

Odisha FC get past Jamshedpur FC art home

BHUBANESHWAR: Odisha FC defeated Jamshedpur FC by 2-1 to earn their first victory of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 campaign. The hosts were leading 2-0 at half time.

Diego Mauricio and Mourtada Fall gave the Juggernauts a two-goal advantage before the half-time break. On the other hand, the Men of Steel brought one back through an own goal from Fall himself.

Odisha FC broke the deadlock in the 20th minute. Isak showcased some exceptional dribbling skills to find Hugo Boumous inside the box. Boumous laid it off for Diego Mauricio, whose shot took a slight deflection from Stephen Eze and ended in the back of the net.

In the 42nd minute, Mourtada Fall gave the comfort cushion to Sergio Lobera’s side. Hugo Boumous swung in a corner from the right and Fall headed it straight into the net. In the process, the Senegalese defender scored his 18th goal in the ISL, all coming from headers. He was adjudged the Key Performer of the Match.

Jamshedpur FC got one back in the 62nd minute after Mourtada Fall headed a corner into his own net.
