AGARTALA, TRIPURA: Sikkim made short work of Gujarat winning 4-1 on the opening day of the Group G matches of the Senior Women’s National Football Championship for the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy at the Umakanta Mini Stadium on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
Striker Simran Gurung was in cracking form and slammed all the goals after Gujarat took the lead through Khushbu Saroj in the 24th minute. Gujarat’s joy, however, was short-lived as Simran struck twice in the 32nd and 36th minutes to give Sikkim a 2-1 lead at half time.
The winners pressed further after the change of ends and Simran was once again in the forefront with two more goals.
In the other match of the group, hosts Tripura brought joy to the local fans with an emphatic 5-0 win over Chandigarh.
Tripura opened the scoring through Mausami Urang in the 10th minute, who again found the mark in the 28th minute to give her team a 2-0 lead at half time. Three more goals came in the second session from Marina Jamatia, substitute Shriya Deb and Usham Luxmi Devi.
