LUDHIANA: Services thumped Assam 3-0 in Group A, while Delhi and Goa played out a goalless draw in Group B, in Day 6 of the Santosh Trophy held at Punjab.
In Group A, Services put on a stellar show for the fans as they attacked from the first kick of the ball.
In the 11th minute, Jain P. opened the scoring for Services as he slotted home a well –timed ball released by teammate Francis.
Although Assam tried to equalize their deficit, the Services’ defence held on bravely and thwarted every effort initiated by their opponents.
At the interval, Services led by a solitary goal.
Within minutes of the second half, Services doubled their lead as Arjun Tudu in the 48th minute scored a blinder after controlling an excellent pass from Mawia.
Against the run of play, Assam fostered a brilliant goal scoring opportunity in the 50th minute, but it went abegging as Biplob Sonowal hoofed the ball wide of the post.
Howbeit, Arjun Tudu once again gate-crashed Assam’s defence and put the tie to bed by scoring sublimely in the 54th minute.
A solid Services Team held on to their 3-0 lead and the score-line stayed the same at the end of ninety minutes.
With this win, Services have garnered a hefty 7 points and sit atop Group A. (As of March 6, 2015)
Group B witnessed a tactical affair as both involved parties, Delhi and Goa, played out a goalless draw.
Both teams created equal chances in a tightly fought contest, but failed to do justice to their opportunities.
