NEW DELHI: The Indian U-17 World Cup Squad trotted to a 2-0 win against FC Metz U-17 at the Sports Complex in Tremery, France on June 11, 2016.
The Indian colts had the lion’s share of possession in the match and fostered goal scoring opportunities at will, but were left reeling as chances were seldom converted.
In the 10th minute, India had a golden chance to surge into lead but Suresh failed to tap the ball home after the opposition custodian fluffed his lines, following a Komal shot. Komal’s shot in the 40th minute came close to taking the lead for the Indian colts but the opposition custodian pushed it away, as the half-time scoreline read 0-0.
Abhijit Sarkar once again proved to be the trump card for the Indian Colts as his 56th minute strike, after latching onto a Komal cross from the left flank, gave India a solitary goal lead.
In the 81st minute, India doubled their lead when Komal’s rasping shot met with a wicked deflection and crept in the back of the opposition net.
The Indian defence stood strong to see out the match as the full-time scoreline read 2-0 in India’s favour.
