GREATER NOIDA, UTTAR PRADESH: Former champions Railways moved into the final rounds of the 29th Senior Women’s National Football Championship for the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy from Group C after routing hosts Uttar Pradesh 6-0 at the Shaheed Vijay Pathak Sports Stadium on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Railways have made the grade with nine points from three matches. They scored 23 goals and conceded two. Uttar Pradesh finished second in the group with six points.
The winners took an early grip of the match and led 5-0 at half time. While international Anju Tamang netted a quick hat-trick (15’, 19’, 28’), Yumnam Kamala Devi (3’, 13’) and Sanju (57’) were the other scorers.
In the other Group C match, which was of no consequence, Assam returned home with a victory under their belt as they edged Andhra Pradesh 2-1.
While Andhra Pradesh took the lead through Mandala Anusha in the 39th minute, two goals from Puja Pachi (72’) and Maidangshri Narzary (85’) made the day for the winners. While Assam ended with three points, Andhra Pradesh remained without a point.
