Punjab qualify for 29th Sr Women's NFC for Rajmata Jijabai Trophy finals

JAIPUR: Punjab secured their spot in the final rounds of the 29th Senior Women’s National Football Championship for Rajmata Jijabai Trophy 2024-25, after they drew Chhattisgarh 1-1 at the Vidyadhar Nagar Stadium in Jaipur, on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The score at half-time was goalless.

Needing a win to top the group, Chhattisgarh took the lead early in the second half through Hina Nirmalkar (50’). Punjab soon switched things around and it was substitute Harmilan Kaur (59’), who put them back on track by levelling the scores.

While both teams finished their Group E matches with seven points apiece, Punjab, by dint of a higher goal difference, made the cut.

Uttarakhand put five past Rajasthan

Though their chances of qualification had ended earlier, Uttarakhand ended their Senior Women’s NFC campaign with a 5-0 victory against Rajasthan. They led 1-0 at half-time.

Anjali Chhetri (9’) opened the scoring for Uttarakhand in the first half, before four second half goals by forward Mitali Melwal (50’, 65’, 73’, 90+4’) made it a rout for the Himalayan state.

Railways, UP win big in Group C

GREATER NOIDA: Former champions Railways began their campaign with a 5-1 drubbing of Assam at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in GREATER Noida, on Thursday. Railways led 4-1 at the breather.

Braces from Sanju (3’, 28’) and Yumnam Kamala Devi (33’, 76’), and a goal from midfielder Mamata (45+1’) set them on their way in Group C. Sainjali Kemprai (20’) was the only scorer for Assam.

Over in the second match of Group C, Uttar Pradesh completed a 5-0 drubbing of Andhra Pradesh. They led 2-0 at half-time.

Muskan Khan (24’, 90’) netted a brace, while Varsha Rani (2’), Susmita Vishwakarma (63’), and Pinkey Kumari (72’) scored one each.
