NEW DELHI: I-League outfit Mumbai FC have added some real teeth to their strike force by roping in prolific goal getter Josimar da Silva, a club statement has informed.
The Brazilian talisman scored 13 goals in 23 I-League matches for Mohammedan SC, the second highest tally last season.
On completion the signing of Josimar, Mumbai FC Head Coach Khalid Jamil said: “Josimar is a fantastic signing for us.
“He will provide a focal point for all our attacks and I see him scoring a lot of goals for us this season. He is a confident lad. Besides his sterling work up front, his link up play too is really good. Josimar brings with him vast experience of playing in the I-League as well as robust and consistent performances over the past few seasons.”
Josimar’s previous clubs include Mohammedan SC, Salgaocar and United SC in India and Ponte Preta & Clube De Regatas in Brazil.
The 30 year old displayed his happiness on signing for Mumbai FC as he stated, “It’s going to be really exciting playing here for this club. Mumbai FC has always been a difficult team to beat. I along with my new teammates want to help the club move higher up the table. There are so many good players at this club.”
“I have always liked playing in Mumbai, it’s a beautiful city with enthusiastic people and I look forward to working with Khalid Jamil and Henry Picardo. I am eager to meet my new teammates. I-League is getting stronger by the season with better players and more professional clubs coming into the fray. I am upbeat and geared up for the challenges that lie ahead in this gruelling football league, the feisty forward added.
Mumbai FC Team Manager, Henry Picardo was all praise for his team’s new signing.
“We all know what Josimar is capable of. We have all seen his exploits at previous clubs. With over 50 goals in just 4 or 5 seasons is a brilliant record. Just having his name on the team-sheet strikes fear in the minds of defenders.”
With an average of 11 goals per season, Josimar is an important addition to the Mumbai FC squad.
