SHILLONG: Promoted Mohammedan Sporting opened their account in the Airtel I-League 2013-14 Season by bringing curtains to fellow newcomers Rangdajied United FC’s unbeaten home run with a 3-0 win at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Sunday (October 20, 2013).

Tolgay Ozbey opened the scoring for the visitors in the 6th minute before captain Jerry Zirsanga doubled the lead 12 minutes later. Joshiar da Silva also got his name on the score sheet scoring the third goal in the 42nd minute.

Rangdajied United Coach Santosh Kashyap made as many as 3 changes in the starting XI. Skipper Eugeneson, out with an injury, was replaced by Bhola Prasad while new Airtel I-League registrant Shin Hojun came in for Sandesh Gadkari. Edmar Figueira meanwhile came in ahead of T. Lalnunpuia.

But the Meghalaya team had a bad day in the office with the Kolkata side making inroads right into the goal in the 6th minute when Tolgay Ozbey blasted in a powerful right footer from just inside the box.

Then in the 18th minute a corner kick Mohammedan Sporting captain Jerry Zirsanga headed in a corner.

Mohammedan Sporting were a constant threat with a string of forays into their opponent’s half. But Rangdajied attacked too and had it not been for Mohammedan Sporting custodian Ashok Singh who made some excellent saves to win the Man of the Match award, the scoreline could have been different.

Joshimar da Silva scored minutes before halftime to go into the break with a comfortable thtree-goal advantage.

While Mohammedan Sporting now have three points from four outings, Rangdajied United remain rocl-bottom with two in their kitty from five matches.
