BERHAMPORE/MALDA (WEST BENGAL): Manipur and Bihar made the semi-finals of the Sub-Junior Girls’ National Football Championship Tier 1, on Friday, September 6, 2024, with all-win records in their respective groups.
While in Group A in Behrampore, Manipur had Mizoram dancing to their tune with a 9-0 win to collect nine points from three matches, in Group B in Malda, Bihar rode on Rinki Kumari Chauhan's prolific goalscoring to cruise to a 5-1 victory over Karnataka and finish with nine points.
The game wasn't as one-sided as the scoreline suggested though. Chauhan's opener in the 10th minute was cancelled out by Prathikshya's goal in the 35th minute of the game. Right on the stroke of halftime though Bihar edged into the lead courtesy of Anshu Kumari's strike in injury time. Chauhan completed her hat trick with two quick fire goals in the 50th and 53rd minutes before scoring another in second half injury time to wrap up the points.
In the Manipur vs Mizoram match, a brace each by Julan Nongmaithem (14', 45'+2'), Chingkhamayum Redima Devi (19', 24'), Mongjam Pusparani Devi (25', 38') and Yaiphabi Thokchom (36', 90'+2') sealed a comfortable win for a Manipur side that completely dominated proceedings. Substitute Takhelmayum Ashalata Devialso got on the scoresheet with a goal in the 55th minute.
In Group A's evening game Haryana trounced Tamil Nadu 14-3. Haryana's forward Nidhi ran rampant, scoring an astonishing nine goals (22', 33', 45', 45'+2', 48', 57', 73', 76', 79') in the game. Revika (2', 9', 65') was the other player to get a hat trick for Haryana.
Group B's other match saw a far more competitive fixture played out between Gujarat and Meghalaya, with the former winning 2-0. Shilpaben Thakor opened the scoring for Gujarat in the 36th minute, to give them a slender lead at the break. Captain Laxmiben Chaudhary's added a second on the hour's mark settled their nerves and gave them a comfortable victory.
