NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation’s U-16 Kalyani Regional Academy reached Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, the eve of their opening encounter against Frenz United Malaysia A in a Group A Match of the Asian Champions Trophy.
The Regional Academy boys, who had represented India in the AFC U-16 Qualifiers in Kuwait in September 2013 were put through the paces under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Goutam Ghosh.
“It was a light training session aimed at helping the Boys acclimatise with the foreign conditions,” Ghosh said.
“Rest is very important ahead of the first game. These boys have travelled a lot so they need proper rest to get going in full cry.
The first game, that too away is of great importance in shaping the tournament for us. This, as I have been saying from day one is a great exposure for the Boys, one which they will learn a lot from,” Ghosh added.
The U-16 Championship is being played between 12 Teams who have been divided into two Groups of six Teams each. The six Teams would be playing on a Home and Away format with the top two from the each Group advancing to the semifinals.
The other four Teams in Group A are Frenz United, Indonesia; PVF FA, Vietnam; Timor Leste U-16 National Team and Home United SC, Singapore.
Match kicks-off at 6PM IST.
