12 Oct 2024

MANJERI: Thiruvananthapuram Kombans secured a 2-0 victory over Thrissur Magic FC in challenging weather conditions at Payyanad Stadium in the Super League Kerala match on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Played under steady drizzle, both teams adapted to long-ball tactics. The defence of both sides held firm, with neither allowing a breakthrough until the 37th minute. Kombans’ captain, Patrick Motta, delivered a high ball to winger Ganesan on the left wing, and a swift run resulted in a penalty for Kombans after Thrissur keeper Pratheesh’s attempt to intercept the ball led to a foul. Autemar Bispo calmly converted from the spot, giving Thiruvananthapuram Kombans a 1-0 lead.

Thrissur quickly responded with an attack, earning a penalty in the 41st minute. However, Kombans’ goalkeeper Americo Santos made a brilliant save when he stopped Alex Dos Santos’ shot.

In the second half, as Thrissur pressed forward, Kombans capitalised on their counterattacking opportunities with impressive runs. In the extra minute of the second half, Kombans’ substitute Shihad sealed the victory with a brilliant strike from the left corner of the penalty box.
