Kombans end Kannur Warriors' unbeaten run in Super League Kerala

KOZHIKODE: Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC pulled off a stunning 2-1 comeback victory over Kannur Warriors FC in the Super League Kerala at EMS Stadium, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Kannur Warriors FC, who dominated the early stages by maintaining possession and controlling the tempo. Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC struggled to find their rhythm and were unable to create any significant chances in the opening minutes.

Kannur’s persistence paid off in the 24th minute when Alister Anthony found the back of the net, giving the home team a crucial lead.

In the second half, Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC shifted gears and in the 62nd minute. Captain Patrick Motta, one of the league’s best set-piece specialists, delivered a flawless free kick that found Kombans forward Autemar, who rose above the defenders and powered a header past Kannur keeper Ajmal, leaving him with no chance.

Kombans continued to press, relentlessly attacking Kannur’s defence and controlling the match. Their efforts were rewarded in the 85th minute when Kannur defender Munmun Timothy made a crucial error, which Kombans forward Akmal Shan swiftly capitalised on, slotting home to give Kombans a well-deserved 2-1 lead.
