NEW DELHI: The Indian U-17 World Cup Squad currently on an exposure trip to South Africa defeated Supersports United U-18 5-2 on February 19, 2016 in South Africa.
After Supersports United tested the Indian defence with long through balls in the opening minutes of the match, the Indian Colts came through and eventually began to dominate the match by accumulating possession.
In the 12th minute, Komal released Boris onto goal, but the referee flagged the latter offside. Had the referee not raised his flag, Boris would be clear onto goal, with only the opposition custodian to beat.
Three minute later, Abhijit Sarkar’s thumping header flew inches wide of the post following a Sanjeer free-kick. In the 19th minute, the Indian colts took the lead as Suresh scored from a well-worked corner kick scenario to make the scoreline reflect 1-0 in favour of the Indian colts.
Seven minutes later, Komal had a chance to double India’s lead, but he hoofed his shot straight down the keeper’s throat, after steering clear of the opposition defence.
In the 39th minute, Ninthoi made doubled India’s lead when he latched onto a Dheeraj long ball and slotted it comfortably past the opposition custodian.
After the half-time scoreline read 2-0, the Indian colts assured of the result started to keep possession. However, Supersports United U-18 scored in the 47th and in the 53rd minute to make it 2-2.
Not to be deterred, the Indian colts took the lead again in the 59th minute when Aniket latched onto an inch-perfect Sanjeev through ball and scored to make the scoreline read 3-2 in favour of the Indian colts.
Five minutes later, the Indian colts doubled their lead as Komal blasted his opportunity home after an Aniket through ball to tilt the fixture in India’s favour as the scoreline reflected 4-2.
In the 74th minute, the Indian Colts took an unassailable three goal lead as Saurabh’s thumping header saw the day of light following a Sanjeev long ball, as the scoreline read 5-2.
The Indian defence quelled any hopes of a Supersport United comeback by thwarting away opposition attacks as the final scoreline read 5-2.
