NEW DELHI: The India U-18 team were beaten 4-3 by the Bangladesh U-18 team today (September 18) at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu, Bhutan. Lalawmpuia, Edmund and Princeton being the goal scorers for India in the 18th, 32nd and 47th minute respectively.
India dominated the proceedings in the first half as they went up in the Lalawmpuia’s strong finish after Roshan had turned provider. Bangladesh were kept on the back foot as India piled on the pressure, thereby earning a penalty in the 32nd minute. Edmund converted it with a smart finish to make it 2-0. The first half ended with Princeton scoring with a free-kick from 30 yards out.
The complexion of the game changed in the second half with Bangladesh gaining an upper hand. But India had their own chance when Lalengzama’s long ranger struck the crossbar but it was all Bangladesh thereafter as they mounted a comeback to score their first goal in the 55th minute.
Defensive lapses helped Bangaldesh to equalize and then finally in the 91st minute they struck to take the lead for the first time in the match and thus ensured victory in the process.
India U-18 will now face hosts Bhutan U-18 side on September 22, 2017.
