NEW DELHI: India U-16 National Team defeated Chinese Taipei U-17 4-0 in their opening match of the Jockey Club International Youth Invitational Football Tournament 4-0 in Hong Kong today (March 23, 2018). The tournament is an U-17 tourney where India is fielding their U-16 team as part of their preparation for the AFC U-16 finals slated to be held in September 2018.
India surged into the lead in the 33rd minute when midfielder Lalchhanhima Sailo put compatriot Bekey Oram in the clear who finished it off.
Three minutes later defender Shabas Ahmed doubled the score. Even as captain Vikram’s penalty was saved by the rival goalkeeper, Shabas followed it up to put it into the net, a lead which India held on till the half time.
Seven minutes into the second half, India went up 3-0, Thoiba Singh ramming home a Givson Singh cross.
Rohit Danu completed the rout in the 69th minute.
The boys next play Singapore in their next match tomorrow (March 24, 2018).
