NARAINPUR, CHHATTISGARH: Strong contenders Haryana began their Group B campaign with a 3-0 win over Railways, while Sikkim and Punjab shared the points in the Final Round of the 29th Senior Women's National Football Championship for Rajmata Jijabai Trophy 2024-25, at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground on Friday, December 13, 2024.

Haryana and West Bengal, the other team in the group, now stand on six points in Group B after playing one match each, but Bengal currently enjoy a better goal difference. Sikkim, Punjab and Railways have played two matches each. While Sikkim and Punjab picked up their first points, Railways have three points from two matches.

Haryana too good for Railways

Railways 0
lost to
Haryana 3 (Pooja 54', Renu 74', Aarti 83')

Haryana, who grabbed full points, failed to break open the Railways defence in the first session, pumped in three in the second half to turn the tie into a one-sided affair.

It was Pooja who broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. She tapped in a low cross from the left by Neha. Renu scored the second goal off a long ranger from outside the box in the 74th minute.

In the 84th minute, Neha once again did the spadework when she assisted Aarti in the middle of the box from the left. Aarti promptly headed the ball in to make it 3-0 for the winners.

Sikkim, Punjab share one point each

Sikkim 1 (Suju Hangma Limboo 45')
drew with
Punjab 1 (Ramnik Kaur 46')

In the second fixture of the day, Punjab dominated the game for major parts of the 90 minutes, but ended up settling for a 1-1 draw against Sikkim.

Suju Limboo handed Sikkim the lead in the 45th minute as she netted the ball into the box off a Laxmi Tamang cross from the right. Punjab's equaliser was also a fine goal, a calm finish from Ramnik Kaur in the 46th minute, immediately after the half time. She rifled a low shot past Sikkim's goalkeeper Gyurme Tamang, which hit the inside of the post and went in.

Saturday’s fixtures (Group A): Manipur vs Odisha (9 am); Tamil Nadu vs Maharashtra (2.30 pm).
