NEW DELHI: Goa and Tamil Nadu started their campaigns in the 70th Santosh Trophy on a winning note as they defeated West Bengal 3-1 and Assam 3-0 respectively in the Group B fixtures which kicked-off today in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
After a goalless first half wherein both Team vied for possession, Goa put their foot on the throttle and scored three goals in quick successions courtesy of strikes from Milagres Gonsalves in the 54th minute and Beevan D’Melo and Angelo Colaco in the 66th and 69th minute respectively. West Bengal pulled a goal back through Harri Shreshta in the dying embers of the match as Goa wrapped up the tie with a 3-1 win.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu registered an easy 3-0 win over Assam courtesy strikes from Kaalilaudeen in the 33rd minute and a second half brace by Praveendran who scored in the 81st and the 85th minute. With this win, Tamil Nadu moved to the top of Group B.
Services take on Jammu & Kashmir and Maharashtra face Railways in the Group A clashes slated for tomorrow.
