NARAINPUR, CHHATTISGARH: Punjab and Chandigarh logged full points in the Junior Boys’ National Football Championship for BC Roy Trophy 2024-25 Tier 1 in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Played at the Ramakrishna Ashrama ground, in two Group C matches, Chandigarh defeated Meghalaya by a solitary goal and Punjab got the better of Karnataka 3-1.

In the day’s first match, Punjab were quick to take the lead in the second minute when skipper Jugraj Singh netted home after Karnataka goalkeeper CN Manav Venki failed to collect the ball properly. Jugraj scored again in the 21st minute after getting the ball inside the box. He positioned himself well before slotting the ball into the corner of the net.

Karnataka looked like making a match of it when Roshan S reduced the margin in the 72nd minute. But Punjab put paid to their hopes with the third goal in the 78th minute through Sukhmanpreet Singh.

In the other Group C match, Chandigarh bagged full points thanks to a goal by Hipjyoti Moran in the 78th minute. Moran displayed a good sense of anticipation as he ran into the rival box to meet a long ball from the right and find the target with an angular shot.

Manipur, Haryana, Arunachal, Assam easy winners

NAGAON, ASSAM: The Tier 2 of the Junior Boys’ National Football Championship for BC Roy Trophy 2024-25, which kicked off at the Nurul Amin Stadium, ground 1 and 2, in Nagaon, Assam, on Sunday, July 28, 2024, saw Manipur, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh and hosts Assam winning their respective matches.

Mr. Pijush Hazarika, the Honourable Minister for Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Public Relations, Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of Assam, inaugurated the meet.

N Dhanaraj Singh, Mohammad Mansur Alam, Lokho Rezilo (two goals each), Shitaljit Haorongbam and Mohammed Aris Khan were the other scorers.
