NEW DELHI: The Indian Women’s Senior National Team is gearing up in full flow at Shiv Nadar University, Dadri for the Women’s Olympic Qualifiers Round 1 slated to kick-off in Myanmar from March 9, 2015. Besides the hosts, India have been clubbed with Sri Lanka in Group A. In an exclusive interview with www.the-aiff.com, Head Coach Sajid Dar talks at length about the Team’s preparation, vision, challenges, creating a ‘fool-proof defence’ and much more. EXCERPTS:
What are your expectations?
It do not want to burden them with expectations. I have told them to enjoy their Football and play with their hearts out. But we will definitely play some good Football in the upcoming Qualifiers.
How does your preparation complement it?
The Players are performing excellently and they are learning to play together as a unit. And they are learning new things every day. The preparation is on in full flow and everyone from the support staff to the Players stay dedicated to achieve the target.
What is your biggest strength?
If the Players play together as a unit then we can accomplish anything. They can defeat some of the best Teams in Asia, if not in the World.
How do you dissect India’s opponents?
Opponents are opponents irrespective of their FIFA Ranking. There are no minnows in the World of Football. Everyone wants to win. Of course both games against Sri Lanka and Myanmar would be difficult. We need to work hard to win and the games as they are not just a walk in the park. If we are to win, we need to perform.
Is defence a concern?
Defence has always been a concern. But we are trying to rectify our mistakes and Players are now starting to understand their roles. I understand that we will have a foolproof defence ready before the Qualifiers.
