BERHAMPORE/MALDA: Tamil Nadu and Manipur began their campaign in the Sub-Junior Girls’ National Football Championship Tier 1 with contrasting wins in Group A in Berhampore, West Bengal, on Monday, September 2, 2024.

While Tamil Nadu routed Mizoram 10-2, Manipur defeated a fighting Haryana 3-2 in the other outing of the opening day.

While Sahana K (4) S Dharshini (4), and G Nayana (2) were the scorers for Tamil Nadu, JH Lalnunpuii scored both goals for the losers. For Manipur, who led 3-1 at half time, Yaiphabi Thokchom, Thoudam Malemnganbi Devi and Julan Nongmaithem found the target. Nidhi and Revika were Haryana’s goalscorers.

In Group B, played in Malda, West Bengal, Bihar ran over Meghalaya with a 10-0 margin. Anshu Kumari (5), Rinki Kumari Chauhan (3), Vaibhavi Raj Singh and Aradhana Kumari got the goals for Bihar. Gujarat got past Karnataka 1-0 in the other match with Laxmiben Chaudhary scoring the all-important goal in the dying minutes.
