NADIA, WEST BENGAL: Karnataka and West Bengal continued to dominate Group B of the Senior Women’s National Football Championship for the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy at the DL Roy Stadium on Monday, October 21, 2024.
Both teams won their respective matches to take their points tally to six from two matches. After Karnataka edged Bihar 1-0 in the day’s first match, West Bengal had Jammu and Kashmir on their knees to win 19-0.
In the Karnataka versus Bihar match, the former scored the match-winner at the stroke of half time when Maitreyi Palasamudram converted a spot kick.
In the day’s second match, which witnessed an absolute goal-riot, international Sulanjana Raul ripped a rich harvest of goals scoring 10 times. While Mousumi Murmu and Sonali Soren struck three goals, Priya Das (2) and Sujata Mahata scored the others.
Given the group's current position, the match between Karnataka and West Bengal on Wednesday will be the decider for the qualification to the main rounds. Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir are out of contention after losing two consecutive matches each.
Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh split points
ANANTAPUR, ANDHRA PRADESH: In Group F, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh battled out for a goalless draw at the RDT Stadium. Both teams now have four points from two matches.
In the other match of the group, Ladakh gathered full points when they beat Madhya Pradesh by two first half goals. While Rubina Kousar opened the account in the 35th minute, Himanshi doubled the lead six minutes later. This was Ladakh’s first win in two matches.
Mizoram too good for Telangana
SILIGURI, WEST BENGAL: The Group H match between Mizoram and Telangana at the Kanchenjunga Stadium turned out to be a completely one-sided affair with the former winning 9-0.
Mizoram, who led by five goals at half time, scored through Lalthansangi (3), Lalrinmuani (2), Grace Lalrampari Haunhar, Cindy Rammreatpuii Colney, Lalhriattri and K Ngopawdi.
