VASCO (GOA): The opening match of the AIFF Youth Cup resulted in a 1-1 stalemate between Tanzania and the United States of America at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco, Goa today (May 15, 2016).
USA took the lead as early as the 3rd minute when Grant Ogundimu capitalized from a scuffle inside the Tanzania box and scored to give USA a solitary goal lead. The lead however was short-lived for the States, as Tanzania scored in the 13th minute, when Mohamed Rashid’s scorcher from outside of the US 18-yard box found the right bottom corner, to restore parity.
After the Teams went into the tunnel at half-time with the scoreline reading 1-1, Tanzania rattled the crossbar in the 65th minute when Ally Nganzi’s volley from 20 yards caught the US keeper napping, however to no avail.
With neither Team able to capitalize on attacking opportunities fostered the full-time scoreline read 1-1 as both Teams shared the spoils of battle.
While Tanzania face hosts India in their next match on May 17, 2016, the USA takes on India on May 19, 2016 in their next fixture.
