NEW DELHI: The AIFF U-19 side drew its opening fixture 0-0 against Aizawl FC in the Great Sports Independence Day Cup today (July 31) at the Lammual Ground in Aizawl, Mizoram.

The game began slowly with both sides unable to apply any pressure on the opponent goal. The pace increased though after the half hour mark with the AIFF boys mounting a flurry of attacks on the home side’s goal. In the 36^th minute Zonunmawia’s had the chance of the half but his shot was saved as the teams headed goalless into half-time.

The 2^nd half began with Roshan getting a chance to open the scoring but his shot too was blocked out. The pace of the game slowed down considerably thereafter. Both set of players scrapped it out in the midfield but no real goal scoring opportunity was created as the teams shared the honours.

The AIFF U-19 side is next slated to play Ramhlun North FC on August 2
