NEW DELHI: The AIFF U-19 Colts went down fighting 1-2 against Chanmari West FC in the Independence Day Cup 2016 in Aizawl, Mizoram on August 02, 2016.
Although the AIFF Colts took the lead as early as the 2nd minute, when Zama’s curling free-kick ended in the back of the net, the Colts were unable to build on their advantage and conceded two goal, late into the first half, that proved to be the difference between the two sides.
In the 35th minute, Chanmari West FC equalized their deficit when they scored from a corner kick scenario. And seven minutes later, Chanmari West took the lead as they scored from a direct free-kick as the AIFF Colts went into the tunnel at half-time trailing 2-1.
The AIFF Colts, although fostered goal scoring chances, failed to convert them. In the 70th minute, Edmund blazed past two opposition defenders but failed to tap the ball home, as his shot went wayward of the intended target.
In the 88th minute, the AIFF Colts had an opportunity to equalize their deficit but Chanmari West FC’s custodian grabbed a Rahim cross before it could make its way to Edmund. The full-time scoreline read 1-2 in Chanmari West FC’s favour.
