AIFF Media Team
Age doesn’t matter in Football. All India Football Federation’s U-15 Regional Academy Team presently preparing for U-16 International Competitions proved too hot for the Senior Team of Khidderpore Club in a Friendly Match at the Pailan World School Campus on Tuesday (July 2).
Khidderpore Club, the Champions of the Kolkata First Division League who earned a ticket for the Premier Division of the Kolkata League were represented by their Senior boys but lost to AIFF’s U-15 Academy Team by a solitary goal.
Bodo scored the only goal of the match in the 53rd minute.
High on confidence after triumphing over East Bengal's U-19 Team in the last game, the Academy Boys played with flair in an attacking 4-3-3 formation. The Boys under Head Coach Goutam Ghosh could have taken the lead in the opening exchanges had Surya’s effort not brought out the best in the rival custodian.
In the 26th minute, Negi and Bodo exchanged passes to set up Krishna up front but Khidderpore’s goalkeeper pulled off another brilliant save to deny the striker. The Academy Boys pushed their opponents to the brink as the match neared its half way mark.
The Boys were rewarded for their attacking display in the 53rd minute. Bedeshwar’s initial attempt was thwarted by the rival goalkeeper but only as far as Bodo who volleyed home off the rebound to take the lead.
Ghosh maintained: “We are treading the right path. The Boys are proving their mettle with every game. We attacked from the first whistle today and were successful in keeping Khidderpore, who played their first team sans the foreigners, at bay.”
“Results in such matches are inconsequential. It’s all part of a learning process. But on behalf of the boys, it’s motivating when they see their hard work getting rewarded.”
