Friendly weekend matches stay a part of the Curriculum of All India Football Federation’s Regional Academies as they part of the developmental process of the boys.
As part of the philosophy, AIFF’s Kolkata U-15 Regional Academy boys presently preparing for U-16 International Tournaments played Pathachakra in a Friendly match at the Pailan World School Campus on Friday (May 31). Pathachakra, the reigning Champions of the Kolkata Division League (to qualify for the First Division), a feat which they have achieved for four years in succession, scored two goals in the first half to prevail 2-0.
The U-16 boys Academy boys ended on the losing side despite having more than 60 percent possession. The Academy boys interchanged between themselves and stitched a string of passes which, most of the times, caught their opponents on the wrong foot.
The second-half was totally one-sided but the Academy boys, despite pushing their U-21 opponents inside their half, failed to reduce the margin.
Head Coach Goutam Ghosh lauded his boys for their heartening display. “This is a part of our learning process. They were not overawed by their opponents who were five years Senior to them,” he said. “The priority was to play possessional football and my boys executed it to perfection.”
