NEW DELHI: The AIFF Elite Academy defeated Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 in the ongoing edition of the U-18 League at the Benaulim Ground in Goa today (January 29, 2017).
The AIFF Colts took the lead as early as the 8th minute when Edmund’s exquisite through ball was tapped home by Tluanga to give the Colts the lead. The Colts had an opportunity to double their lead within minutes but Ali’s deft touch failed to find the back of the net after Edmund whipped in a cross for him in the 11th minute.
Sporting Goa survived wave after wave of attacks and in the 30th minute almost conceded the goal when Bhutia’s rocket of a shot was blocked on the goal line by a defender.
Little effect did it had on the AIFF Colts and in the 44th minute, the Colts doubled their lead as Rahim tapped in a Edmund cross to take the AIFF Colts leading 2-0 at half-time.
Changing over, Sporting Goa pulled one goal back in the 72nd minute but the AIFF Colts’ defence stood strong to see out the match and Edmund added another in the dying embers as the full-time scoreline read 3-1 in their favour.
The AIFF Colts have so far won two out of two matches in the U-18 League.
